From the age of 13, Bill worked alongside his father learning carpentry and masonry. After college, he became a residential contractor, then a general contractor, building and remodeling many homes and commercial buildings. Because of his excellent reputation as a builder, he began being called on by local attorneys to provide expert testimony in court. He saw many home buyers ending up in lawsuit situations having bought houses with major flaws. When he heard about the home inspection industry, new at the time, he began doing home inspections as part of his contracting business.
Twenty-one years and over 17,000 inspections later, his firm, Advantage Inspection - Sherlock Homes, serves North and South Carolina, doing home and commercial inspections, termite reports, radon testing, water testing, mold testing and mold remediation.
Other distinctions:
- While serving as President of the South Carolina Association of Home Inspectors, he worked closely with state representatives to enact legislation for the home inspection industry in South Carolina.
- He organized the Piedmont Regional Association of Home Inspectors in 2003, which provides continuing education for home inspectors and a scholarship for an area REALTOR®.
- He was named Affiliate of the Year by the Piedmont Association of REALTORs® in 2005.
- He is a course provider and instructor for the SC Real Estate Board.
- He is a Certified Indoor Environmentalist.
